After his debut professional season in the Finnish Premier League, Anthony Herbert has been called up to the Trinidad & Tobago National Team for their upcoming Kings Cup fixture against Tajikistan.
The central defender attended PSC’s New York combine in December 2021 with no previous professional experience. After a successful college career no pathways to the professional game had opened up for the St John’s University graduate until he attended PSC’s New York Pro Soccer Tryout.
In attendance was former Red Bulls MVP Joel Lindpere who saw undoubted potential in the center back and immediately recommended him to compatriot and former EPL player Teemu Tainio, now manager of FC Haka in Finland’s Premier League, who took the opportunity to sign the combine attendee in January 2022.
After playing his first season with the Finnish club and gaining professional experience then Herbert has been rewarded with a call up to his National Team.
PSC Director Tom Taylor commented: “This is what dreams are made of for players who attend our combines. Less than a year ago he had no professional options or pathways and attended our tryouts. 10 months later he has now been called up to his national squad and plays in a European Premier League! We’re glad we’ve been able to assist with his career in the way we have and look forward to seeing where his next steps are.”
PSC are back in New York looking for more untapped talent this December 2022 & January 2023. Want to follow in Anthony’s footsteps? Check out all our upcoming events here.
