Allyson Patterson Signs with Volsungur in Iceland

PSC is proud to announce the signing of Allyson Patterson with Volsungur in Iceland, following her impressive performances at our Orlando Pro Tryout in January.

Volsungur Head Coach Alli Fridriksson was in Orlando and had the opportunity to see Patterson play live and on his return to Iceland wasted no time in signing the midfielder for the 2022 season.

The club cruelly missed out on promotion last season on away goals, a rule that has now been scrapped, and are looking to go one better this season and hope that the addition of Patterson will help secure promotion this time around.

This will be SNHU graduate’s debut professional season following a successful college chapter which saw her recently honored as a United Soccer Coaches All-America First Team selection. Her final college season saw Patterson start all 17 contests she played in, registering 13 points on six goals and an assist. The midfielder led the conference in game-winning goals (4) while ranking ninth in goals and 16th in points. Three of her four game-winners came in 1-0 victories, with two of those finding the back of the net in the 60th minute or later.

PSC Director of Placement, Simon Deeley, commented “We are hoping Allyson can go over and make a difference for Volsungur this season. She was one of the standouts at the tryout and deserves her opportunity in Europe. Based on the potential that we saw in her, we hope this is just the first step in a long career but the focus now is to perform well this season and hopefully secure promotion”

We caught up with Allyson ahead of her debut professional season to find out her thoughts on the tryout and the upcoming year.

What is it about playing in Iceland that you are most looking forward to?
I am looking forward to expanding my soccer IQ, especially in a different culture. Also, I am excited to be living outside the USA and evolving not just as a soccer player but as a person. Plus, I am super excited to sit in some of the geothermal spas!

What are your hopes and goals for this season (both individually and as a team)?
My hope and goal is to enjoy this first step into my professional career. I hope that this journey opens more doors for me to continue my love and passion for the game. This is an obvious goal, but it is to be the player that the coach needs me to be in order to push this team to the top of the league and hopefully to the next division.

You worked with Alli, your new Head Coach, at the tryout you attended in Orlando – how helpful was that in this process for you?
It is one thing to have your film viewed by clubs but to have hands-on experience with a professional coach is something else. It made all the difference and was one of the biggest things that stood out to me the most during the combine. I got to have a first-hand glimpse of his coaching style and what he is like as a person. He reminded me of my college coach, so that brought me comfort throughout the three days. It made me hopeful and excited about fitting into his team.

What were your thoughts on the combine and the on-field experience you had?
My on-field experience at the combine was great. It was awesome to see the differences between each coach. I loved playing since that was my first time since the NCAA Tournament. I was enjoying every minute of it and trying to soak up as much information as I could from the coaches.

What were your thoughts on the combine and the off-field experience you had (Organization, logistics, communications, etc)
Everything about the combine was simple and easy to follow. There was good communication across the three days with the changing of times. Overall, for my first combine, it was very smooth and well put together.

How has your experience been with PSC and their facilitating of the deal?
PSC has made this new journey very easy and smooth. It is comforting to know someone is advocating and helping you pursue your childhood dream of playing professional soccer. PSC has made this process free of worry which is awesome.

Is there anyone you would like to thank or acknowledge at this time?
I would like to thank my whole family for the constant support to pursue my dream. I would love to thank all my coaches from youth to collegiate because without them I wouldn’t be the player I am. Lastly, I would like to say, “I love you and miss you mom! I did it but it’s just the beginning!”

All here at PSC wish Allyson and Volsungur the very best in Iceland this season. Want to follow in her footsteps? Check out our upcoming event page here
