Maggie Smither Signs in Iceland with Grotta

PSC is proud to announce the signing of Goalkeeper Maggie Smither in Iceland with Grotta.

The South Dakota State University Graduate was recommended to the First Division club by PSC Women’s Director Simon Deeley and following a productive Zoom interaction between PSC, the club, and the player, Maggie was signed for the 2021 season.

Maggie joins a list of over 50 Women’s players PSC has placed on professional trial or contract and over 500 Men’s and Women’s players.

When asked about her new challenge, Smither commented,

“I’m really looking forward to playing in an environment I’m not used to and facing new challenges. I think playing in Iceland will help develop and grow areas of my game which is super exciting to think about. I want to put myself in situations where I’m constantly challenging myself, learning, and growing as a player.”

PSC Director, Simon Deeley added, “2020 has brought about many challenges for players trying to break into the professional game and it is great we have still been able to place so many players on both the men’s and women’s side in Europe.”

He continued “Maggie is a player who shows great potential and attracted a lot of interest. Grotta seems like the right fit for her and we’re really excited to see how she progresses this season. Hopefully, this is just the start for her”

When asked about her experience during contract negotiations Smither took time to appreciate both her college coach and PSC’s role in the signing.

“My college coach has been with me every step of the way in this process since the first email it has felt more and more like the perfect fit for me. PSC made this whole experience simple and easy. I feel like they’ve gone above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and made me feel valued every step of the way. I can’t imagine taking this opportunity without them representing me.

And added, “I would like to thank PSC, Grotta for this amazing opportunity, my entire SDSU family, and all my friends and family who encouraged me along the way.”

All our staff here at PSC look forward to seeing Maggie’s progression this season and wish her the very best.
