PSC Combine and UPSL Programme Participant Earns Trials with USL Outfit San Antonio FC

PSC Pro Soccer Combine and UPSL Programme participant Gianluca Cuomo has earned trials with USL side San Antonio FC.

The 24-year-old midfielder attended PSC’s Orlando combine earlier this month, attracting interest from several clubs, before San Antonio Assistant Coach Andy Thompson offered the playmaker a trial with the club.

Cuomo had been a part of PSC’s UPSL Programme in the run-up to his combined attendance, and becomes the third UPSL Programme participant to earn trials with a professional side this month – following in the footsteps of Connor Kass and Reynaldo Zarate.

“I found it easier to go to one location, do what I love – which is to play soccer – and showcase to around 10 coaches from Europe and the USA,” said Cuomo, when speaking on his decision to attend a PSC combine.

“The best thing about it was that each coach from each country looked at the game a bit differently – so it felt like all of the different types of players in attendance could attract attention from the professional coaches.

“In the run-up to the combine, being a part of PSC’s UPSL Programme was a very important and positive experience – it provided me with an opportunity to receive daily, professional training and play soccer year-round in an excellent climate.”

Having worked with Cuomo since May 2017, PSC Director Tom Taylor stressed that a professional trial opportunity is something that the Warner University graduate is more than worthy of.

“Gianluca had an excellent combine in Orlando and impressed a number of coaches in attendance,” said Taylor.

“I’ve known Gianluca for around a year now, and since becoming a part of the UPSL programme he’s worked incredibly hard. He deserves this opportunity and has been a pleasure to work with during these past few months.

“He’s got a great opportunity to trial with an excellent club in San Antonio, and I’m sure he will be well looked after by Darren Powell [San Antonio Head Coach] and Andy.

“I’m looking forward to hearing how he progresses during the week and how he performs during the club’s match on Saturday.”

Concluding his thoughts, Cuomo expressed his gratitude in earning professional trials. He said: “The guys at PSC have helped me a tremendous amount. Frankly, I didn’t know how to get myself playing in front of professional teams. I haven’t reached my ultimate goal of signing a pro contract just yet, but it could happen soon, and PSC will be the vehicle which gets me there.”

All of the staff here at PSC wish Gianluca the very best of luck during his trial with San Antonio FC.
