PSC, in conjunction with their Canadian partners On Ice Management, is delighted to announce the first-ever international soccer game at the Mosaic Stadium, Regina, Canada.

As part of Valencia’s pre-season tour of the USA and Canada, organized by PSC, New York Cosmos of the NASL will be hosting the Spanish La Liga giants at the newly-built arena on Saturday 22 July 2017.

Boasting a modern, yet practical design, the state-of-the-art 40,000-capacity Mosaic Stadium was completed in August 2016, and hosted its first event – a college football game – in October.

Mark Taylor, PSC CEO, was one of the key figures in organizing the upcoming contest and expressed his delight in becoming a part of the arena’s history.

“It is great to be able to bring this international event to the Canadian province of Saskatchewan and the city of Regina,” said Taylor.

“The new stadium looks great and I am sure it will be a fantastic event. We are proud to be working with Valencia again, after organizing their tour of the UK last summer. To bring one of the top teams in Spain to play their first-ever game in Canada is a great coup for the city of Regina.”

Home to Canadian Football League team Saskatchewan Roughriders, the Mosaic Stadium is set to host both a music concert and the Roughriders’ opening pre-season game in the coming months, ahead of the international soccer match.

Reflecting on the news that international soccer will be arriving in the city, Michael Fougere, Mayor of Regina, revealed the event is just the beginning of an exciting future for the arena.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have this event coming to Regina,” said Mayor Fougere.

“This is further confirmation that our iconic new stadium is a world-class venue. It is just one example of the myriad of ways this multipurpose facility will be put to good use in the decades to come.”

Ken Cheveldayoff, Minister of Parks, Culture, and Sport for Saskatchewan, added to the words of excitement and pride spoken by Mayor Fougere.

“On behalf of the Government of Saskatchewan, I would like to congratulate the promoters on their work to bring an event of this magnitude to the city of Regina and to our province,” said Cheveldayoff.

“When the plans for the stadium were being developed, we wanted a facility that was world-class and multi-sport; Mosaic Stadium offers that, as this match between Valencia CF and the New York Cosmos proves. I am looking forward to a successful event, and the opportunity to showcase this beautiful, new facility.”

Furthermore, that excitement was shared by those representing both the Cosmos and Valencia, ahead of visiting Regina and playing a part in entertaining the people of the city.

Erik Stover, New York Cosmos COO, said: “It is a great privilege to play in the first soccer match in the beautiful Mosaic Stadium.

“It is a world-class venue and we are looking forward to the challenge of playing a world-class club like Valencia CF.”

Damià Vidagany, Valencia CF Marketing Director, shared Stover’s enthusiasm about the upcoming event. He said: “All at Valencia CF are eagerly looking forward to our game against the New York Cosmos on Saturday, July 22.

“This will be the club’s first visit to Canada, and we take great pride in being invited to play in the first major football game at the Mosaic Stadium.”

Tickets go on sale on Friday 13 May at 10 am through ticketmaster.ca and the Brandt Centre Box Office (306-781-9300). Prices range from $22 to $66, plus applicable fees.
