PSC Are proud to confirm the signing of Orlando Pro Tryout Attendee Asha Zuniga in Iceland with HK.

Zuniga showcased to four clubs in Orlando and despite being one of the standout performers did not generate any interest from the clubs in attendance. PSC Women’s Director Simon Deeley, also in attendance at the tryout, recognized Zuniga’s quality and was quick to recommend her to a number of contacts within his network.

Negotiations with HK progressed smoothly and the UAB graduate will now link up with the Division one outfit who narrowly missed out on promotion to the Pepsi Premier League last season as they look to go one better this year.

The central defender becomes the second women’s player placed in Iceland this week after confirmation of Deja Sandoval signing with FHL earlier this week.

PSC Director Deeley commented "It is great to see Asha get a chance. I saw her ability very quickly at the tryout and thought she was one of standout players there. I was disappointed that the attending clubs did not take an interest but was certain she could play at the professional level in Europe and pleased with how quick and smoothly the process went. I'm excited to see how she progresses this season as I believe she can have a big future ahead of her." 

We caught up with Asha ahead of her move to Iceland.

What is it about playing in Iceland that you are most looking forward to?

I am most looking forward to getting to play in a new place with new teammates and coaches, while also experiencing a different culture!
 

What are your hopes and goals for this season (both individually and as a team)?

My hopes for this season as a team is to get promoted to the highest league. Individually I hope to contribute to the success of the team, while also developing into a better player.
 

How has your experience at the PSC tryout and the subsequent dealings with Simon in facilitating the deal?

⁠My experience with PSC has been great! The PSC tryout was well organized and gave me a lot of insight into what it takes to play professionally. Following it up, Simon has been easy to communicate to and has given great guidance with the signing of my first contract.
 

What was it about HK that convinced you to choose Iceland for your first pro contract?

HK felt like the right choice for my first pro contract based on everything I was told from Coach Gudni and some of the current players. The goals of the team and style of play aligned with what I am looking for as a player. I was also given a lot of information about life in Iceland and feel comfortable in my decision to move there!
