Germany Showcase Tour Star Jerry Mwenda Signs Pro in Malta

PSC are proud to confirm eighteen-year-old Jerry Mwenda has signed with Zurrieq FC in Malta after impressing on tour in Germany.

Mwenda was first seen by PSC at their California Pro Soccer Tryout in June 2024 where he was coached and evaluated by FC Zurrieq Technical Director Mark Miller. Miller was impressed by Mwenda but wanted to see more of him against elite opposition in Germany in competitive games.

Coach Miller worked with Mwenda over ten days in Germany and by the end of the tour was convinced to offer the young attacker his first pro contract. Mwenda was a key part of the PSC U19 showcase tour teams success leading them to eventually win the Laola Cup in Hamburg.

PSC Director Tom Taylor commented “Jerry was like a lot of players we see at tryouts where they show a lot of potential and glimpses of talent but don’t quite show enough to force a coach to sign them. When he came to Germany with us we got to work with him in a professional training environment and showcase against elite teams and in that environment he was able to perform his best and show more consistently the talent he had shown in California and prove to us that he had the talent and mentality to be offered a professional opportunity. That is what eventually led to Coach Miller signing him and giving him his first professional opportunity in the game. This will be a great level where Jerry can play competitive first team football, work with top coaches on a weekly basis and give him the chance to try and establish himself in Europe. We hope it is the start of a long career for him and wish him the very best this season.”

We caught up with Jerry after he arrived in Malta and linked up with his new club:

How did you end up joining the showcase tour in Germany?

This opportunity came from participating in the PSC combine in California and after showing my talent, joining the elite U19 group for a tour in Germany which was a great experience.

How was your experience in Germany on tour?

My experience in germany was great, the group had great chemistry and the coaches (Paul, Gavin & Tom) also helped me mature more in football.

What are your thoughts for the upcoming season in Malta?

I’m really excited for this season with my team in Malta and i’m looking forward to training and playing with the team to try and establish myself at this level of football.

What are your goals for the year

My goal this season is to play with the first team as quick as possible to learn, improve and help them in the best way I can.

Is there anyone you wish to thank or acknowledge?

I want to thank Tom Taylor, PSC Director and Mark Miller, Zurrieq Coach that helped me get this opportunity in Malta and also helped me improve in the Germany tour. And also the PSC Coaches and Players who made the experience even more enjoyable.
